Quadram Institute's Statistician talks Mathematics and Art
Mathematics and art have a centuries long symbiosis, both in the study of aesthetics, and the mathematical construction of visual art. Since the 1980s, chaos theory and modern computers have enabled the discovery of beautiful new mathematical forms called ‘strange attractors’; fabulously intricate images arising from simple rules.
George Savva’s work develops and explores new strange attractors, demonstrating the emergence of highly ordered yet chaotic structures reflecting the natural processes that form our weather systems and coastlines.
