Speaker: Alexandra (Sasha) Zhernakova, Professor of genome and exposome, University Medical Center Groningen will present a seminar entitled:
Gut microbiome: population and clinical studies.
Host: Simon Carding
Abstract:
The gut microbiome is involved in human immunity and metabolic health and can mediate many human diseases and traits. In this presentation, I will discuss the effect of environmental and genetic factors on the development and composition of the gut microbiome, as seen in our study of the Lifelines Dutch population cohort. I will further discuss the role of the microbiome in gastrointestinal diseases (Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Irritable Bowel Syndrome), and the link between the microbiome and human metabolomics and proteomics profiles, in particular, and their relation to cardiovascular diseases.
All staff from organisations on the Norwich Research Park are welcome to attend.
