All applications for the First Call for Proposals to the Food Safety Research Network will be assessed by a review panel comprising key stakeholders in the Network. The panel will consider each proposals strengths against three scoring criteria.

Criteria 1 – Strategic Fit

  • Is this food safety risk/issue core or peripheral to the Network? Scored from 1, in conflict with core strategy, to score 5, core to our strategy.
  • How many people does this food safety risk / issue impact? Scored from 1, very few, single scenario to score 5, large numbers, multiple scenarios, across sectors.
  • How collaborative is the project? Scored from 1, two similar parties or limited spread of disciplines, to score 5, multi-party and new collaborations (industry, academia, multi-disciplinary team).
  • What is the potential to leveraging new money from other sources for follow-on work? Scored from 1, low potential or little money to score 5, high potential and significant amounts of money.

Criteria – Delivery

  • How difficult is it to develop the solution/change needed? Scored from 1, not sure at all how we might get there to score 5, really clear path foward.
  • How well have any relevant ethical, IP and legislative issues have been addressed? Scored from 1, issues present or not addressed, from to score 5, no issues present or all issues addressed and agreements in place as required
  • How quickly can the project commence? Scored for 1, over 6 months time or unknown, to score 5, from target date (e.g. 1 November 2022)
  • To what extent will value for money be achieved and how clear are the costings? Scored from 1, Poor Value to Money, and/or low levels of in-kind contributions and/or unknown/uncertain costings, to score 5 excellent value for money, high levels of in-kind, and very certain costings.

Criteria – Impact

  • How completely will the solution overcome the barriers and resolve the risk/issue? Scored from 1, hardly effects the risk/issue to score 5, will completely resolve the risk/issue.
  • How difficult is it to implement the solution/change needed? Scored from 1, no idea at all how we might get there or no partners identified to score 5, pathway to impact already in place and partners on board.
  • When might a solution or change be ready for implementation, even if it represents a small win? Scored from 1, likely to be more than three years, to score 5, within six months from the end of the project.
  • How much impact will the solution or change have over time? Scored from 1, it’s really a one off, to score 5, has short, medium and long term or enduring impacts.
