Pradeep Malakar speaking at the 5th International Symposium on Agricultural Food Safety in Shanghai

IFR continues to develop links with scientists in Shanghai working in the vital field of food safety. Pradeep Malakar recently attended the 50th anniversary, as a VIP guest, of the Shanghai Academy of Agricultural Science (SAAS) and the official opening of the new SAAS campus in the Fengxian district of Shanghai on 12th October 2010.

Following on from this visit, Pradeep Malakar gave an invited talk on “Clostridium botulinum spore loads in Agricultural products” at the 5th International Symposium on Agricultural Food Safety in Shanghai which was co-organised by Development Centre of Science and Technology, Ministry of Agriculture, PRC, China Association of Agricultural Science Societies and Shanghai Academy of Agricultural Sciences

Exchange visits and training stays in Norwich are enabling Chinese scientists to effectively use quantitative microbial risk assessments (QMRA) on infectious bacterial agents in food commodities in China. IFR’s QMRA research activities, led by Dr Gary Barker, is innovative and novel. IFR’s activities in China are currently led by Dr Pradeep Malakar, who is supported by BBSRC’s China partnering award. IFR’s ambitions are to be the lead institution for any risk assessment collaborative research with Chinese scientists.
