I am Collection Manager of the National Collection of Yeast Cultures, with the main focus of my work being the expansion of both the collection and its know-how in order to provide a comprehensive representation and understanding of yeast biodiversity, and to supply yeast strains and knowledge to industry and academia in an equitable and efficient manner.
I work to maintain and preserve both new additions and current stocks of the Collection by storage of strains in liquid nitrogen and by freeze-drying as well as carrying out chemotaxonomic profiling and assisting with publication of new species descriptions.
My work also involves meeting with both academia and industry (with a particular focus on the brewing industry), to ensure the Collection is providing the best service possible to meet their needs for yeast supply.
Further duties for the commercial side of the NCYC include advising NCYC customers, DNA fingerprinting, and maintaining our Patent and Safe Deposit services.
I am also the Group Quality Officer with responsibility for all quality issues affecting our science and commercial services.
