I am a NRPDTP PhD student in the Adriaenssens’ research group at QIB. I am studying phage-host interactions in Klebsiella spp – how they drive capsule variation and reduce biofilms.
In 2019, I received the NIH-Fogarty International Scholarship award which I used to complete my Master of Science in Clinical Microbiology in 2021 at Makerere University, Uganda. In my final year, I explored the antibiofilm activity of mycobacteriophages using M. tuberculosis biofilm models. This research continued to support the prospective use of phages in combinatorial therapy with antibiotics for treatment of drug-resistant tuberculosis.
My interest in bacteriophage-research is inspired by recent success stories of phage therapy, and by studying phage-host interactions, I hope to generate new insights that will boost our confidence in utilizing phages to improve health.
