Glycobiology of host-microbe interactions in the gut
My PhD project is mainly focused on a better understanding of the gut-brain crosstalk.
I am having an interdisciplinary study approach to investigate the sialic acid-mediated impact of specific bacteria species in modulation gut brain activity, and thus molecular target to devise microbiota-targeted strategies for reducing brain disorders and disease. In particular I am looking at the hypothalamus and at the neurogenesis process function. The project includes investigation using mammalian cell culture and animal model.
I have been involved in a study aiming to investigate the gastrointestinal dysfunction in MPTP-treated marmosets at King’s College of London. I have been studying the Enteric Nervous System dysregulation in the parkinsonian-like animals.
