Listeria and other invasive pathogens

My PhD research focuses on developing a molecular diagnostics method pipeline that allows the rapid identification of microorganisms in blood from human patients by using an unbiased-metagenomics based approach. My PhD is supported by the company Momentum Bioscience Ltd. Together we are working on how to apply their novel microorganism capture method for the retention of microorganisms in low-count blood samples into our metagenomics pipeline.

Before starting my PhD at QIB I worked in the molecular diagnostics private sector developing kits for the detection of infectious diseases in livestock. Since then, I have been highly interested in the molecular diagnostics field and in the application of this technology for the detection of infectious diseases and its impact in global healthcare.
