I am an epidemiologist and microbiologist of foodborne zoonoses with a long-standing interest in the interrelationships of foodborne zoonotic pathogens among different ecological compartments.

I joined the Quadram Institute as a career track group leader in October 2019 to investigate the epidemiology and genomics of Campylobacter in the food chain using a combination of established and innovative approaches.

My career previous to this has been in public service with the Canadian Integrated Program for Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance (CIPARS) and the FoodNet Canada Integrated Enteric Surveillance System at the Public Health Agency of Canada. Designing and delivering scientific outputs to inform public health policy was also part of my academic focus at the Department of Population Medicine, Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph.

I was awarded a BSc in Animal Science and an MSc in Food Safety Quality Assurance from the University of Guelph, Guelph, ON, Canada. My PhD at the Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Sciences University Brno, Brno Czech Republic in the Department of Biology and Wildlife Diseases focused on the epidemiology of antimicrobial resistance in wildlife and the environment. As a post-doctoral research scientist QIB in Dr. Alison Mather’s research group, I designed and managed a structured epidemiological survey, utilising sequence- and culture-based approaches to characterise antimicrobial resistance in zoonotic foodborne pathogens and commensal bacteria within the food products.
