Glycobiology of host-microbe interactions in the gut

I am a BBSRC iCASE NRPDTP PhD student in the Juge Group as part of the Gut Microbes and Health ISP. I will carry out my BBSRC iCASE Studentship alongside Eagle Genomics in efforts to discover and verify recurrent gut bacterial strains in population health through the use of software tools, machine learning, data mining and experimental approaches.

In 2018 I completed my Bachelor’s in Biomedical Science gaining an upper second class honours at the University of Lincoln. Following this I undertook a MSc by Research looking into the empirical relationship between global patterns of disease and country-level variation in the balance of nutrients in the diet. Throughout my education I gained both wet lab and computational skills providing me with the essential tools needed for my research at the Quadram Institute.

I am highly interested in the use of metagenomic techniques to explore gut health as well as the ways in which diet can affect microbial gut composition.
