Mechanisms regulating the gut-liver axis during health and disease

Links/websites:

I am a MMB funded DTP PhD student in Dr Beraza’s laboratory. My research consists upon testing the potential therapeutic effects of a bacterial consortium in treating NAFLD, defining the underpinning mechanism mediating these effects. I am more specifically assessing whether the bacterial consortium modulates microbiome composition and function conferring improved disease outcomes for NAFLD.

I conducted my undergraduate degree in Biomedicine at UEA in 2019 and graduated with a first-class honours in 2022. Later that year I undertook a MScR project also at UEA investigating a putative stress response protein STM1250 in the Salmonella acid tolerance response.

Throughout my education, I have gained a comprehensive understanding of molecular biology and microbiology. In my project with Dr Beraza I aspire to apply my current and newly acquired knowledge to produce high quality research which has significant implications in the treatment and our understanding of NAFLD.
