Support Group: Human Studies Team

In 2024, I became the newest member of the Human Studies team at the Quadram Institute, where I support the management of human studies and clinical trials.

Some of my responsibilities include coordinating projects, recruiting participants, processing samples and managing data and participants using REDCap.

Although not strictly science-based, my background in anthropology and environmental studies has given me a unique perspective, which has been mainly focused on how different groups of people interact with the world around them. I’ve always had a keen interest in how these groups are effected in various ways based on topics such as climate change, food and nutrition accessibility and socio-economic conditions.

During my Master’s degree, I focused further into how these differing conditions have an effect down to individual’s muscles and bones. I knew from here, that I wanted to further my experience in science, and became a lab technician at the Quadram Institute. I held this job for 2-years, helping with general lab maintenance, and aiding scientists in preparing for various types of experiments.

After this, I moved into my current role as a Human Studies Officer within the Human Studies and Clinical Trials Team. My role consist of helping to ensure that the various human studies at the Quadram Institute are run in an ethical and smooth way. Currently, I have two studies that I mainly aid; one of which is a dietary intervention study, and the other is an observational study.
