I work in Professor Martin Warren’s group. My research focuses on developing innovative methods for the detection and quantification of vitamin B₁₂ and its analogues from diverse biological sources. By establishing robust B₁₂ detection and quantification techniques I have contributed to clinical and translational studies, translating laboratory innovations into tools that can improve clinical outcomes.
I am particularly interested in advancing diagnostic approaches that not only assess vitamin B₁₂ status but also measure associated biomarkers in plasma, providing a more complete picture of B₁₂ metabolism and its impact on nutrition and health. My approach combines the specificity of microbial proteins with the sensitivity of advanced mass spectrometry, enabling highly sensitive and reliable platforms for both research and diagnostic applications. These methods supported the Quadram Institute’s B₁₂-fortified pea-shoot project and are being applied in clinical studies deepening our understanding of vitamin B₁₂ and its role in health and disease.
I completed my doctoral studies at the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology in Trieste, Italy, specialising in microbial biochemistry, molecular biology and advanced analytical methods. Before joining the Warren group at the Quadram Institute, I worked as a postdoctoral scientist in the Hall group, where I explored the interface of host–microbe interactions and the role of early-life gut microbiota in shaping long-term health.
Over the course of my career, I have contributed to studies on antimicrobial peptides, bacterial metabolism and human milk oligosaccharides, developing a broad skill set in molecular biology, microbiology, biochemistry, and mass spectrometry analysis. Bringing this expertise into my current role allows me to work at the intersection of microbiology, clinical research and diagnostic innovation in nutrition and health.
