Project Scientist

Support Group: Laboratory Operation

Support Group: Colon Model Facility

I work as a project scientist within the Colon Model Facility

My role centres around providing technical support to scientists to run gut model-based experiments. There is a variety of in vitro human gut models available including Micro-Matrix Bioreactor, batch and continuous human colon models, and SHIME. The research projects I support are mainly focused on studying the interactions between the human gut microbiota and dietary supplements, probiotic, prebiotic, antibiotic and xenobiotics which can restore or improve the gut microbiota. I am also a co-PI of a human study (colon model study) where I am involved in recruitment, consenting and managing human samples.

Outside of the human gut microbiota, I have interests in the development of antibiotic resistance which is reflected by my educational background. Here I focused on characterising the effects of a mutation within the CTX-M-15 gene from clinical isolates of E. coli.
