Award winning communications team building the reputation of the institute

Communications

Science Support Group

The Communication team helps communicate Quadram Institute research and impact to audiences across the globe.

Our communication strategy sets out the mutual benefit principles and priorities needed to grow the reputation of the institute and its partners. The communications team is focused on building trust, awareness and advocacy for our science and societal impact.

We work to help build awareness and advocacy among funders, Government policymakers, the public, our local communities, news media, industry and academia.  Our strategy draws on Grunig and Hunt’s two-way symmetrical model of public relations, focusing on creating dialogue and sustaining mutually beneficial relationships between the institute and its various publics.  We are a small, professional team covering a lot of ground, and we aim to enable our scientists to effectively communicate their research and impact.

Science Communication

We explain our science to different audiences through media relations campaigns, newsletters, blogs and articles for public audiences, digital campaigns, social media, public and business events.

Public Engagement, Education and Outreach

We work in partnership with science festivals, schools, and museums to engage people in dialogue about our research and we help develop a public engagement culture by providing a wide range of training and support for colleagues in science and science support teams.

We work with educational partners to visit schools and colleges or host visits at the institute to help raise aspirations, nurture an interest in science, and to widen participation for young people in our communities.

Social media

We raise the profile of the institute through our growing social media channels. Follow us to stay up to date with our latest news, discover what life is like at the Quadram Institute, and chat to us.

Policy engagement

We work alongside our partners on the Norwich Research Park to engage parliamentarians and civil servants with our science  – to influence positive change for society and advocate for the world-class cluster of science in Norwich.

Internal communication

We manage our fortnightly Coffee Break Science meetings, the institute’s Intranet, and fortnightly Director’s updates, and other activities to support effective internal communication.

Demonstrate impact

We evaluate our media coverage, digital media campaigns, public engagement events and stakeholder interactions to demonstrate our wider impact.

Brand management

We are custodians of the Quadram Institute brand and we look after branding and design work for websites, print, merchandise, and other media.
