2nd October 2025
Quadram Institute Bioscience (QIB) is delighted to announce the appointment of two new members to its Board of Trustees.
The two new QIB trustees, Professor Maggie Dallman OBE and Professor Gary Frost, are both scientists at Imperial College London. Maggie Dallman is originally an immunologist and has extensive expertise in public engagement with science and widening participation. Gary Frost’s research spans nutrition science, dietary intake, appetite regulation, obesity management, and the relationship between food structure, metabolism, and ageing
Chair of Trustees Dr Celia Caulcott said: “On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I’m very pleased to welcome Maggie and Gary to the Quadram. They each bring a unique wealth of experience to the Quadram Institute as a leader in the field of research into food and nutrition, gut microbiology, and human health.”
Professor Maggie Dallman OBE
Professor Maggie Dallman is Associate Provost (Societal Engagement), Founding Academic Director of the Centre for Societal Engagement at Imperial and Professor of Immunology.
Having joined Imperial in 1994 as a lecturer in the Department of Biology, Maggie has held a series of academic responsibilities at Imperial and is now the academic lead on the College’s Societal Engagement Strategy. She is passionate about giving young people the opportunity to reach their potential, believing that education and engagement is central in achieving this goal. Through Imperial’s Public and Community Engagement teams, as well as through Imperial’s widening participation and outreach work, Maggie’s division provides opportunities in STEM education and research with an emphasis on underserved and underrepresented youth. Maggie’s scientific interests lie in the study of regulation of inflammation and immunity and she has worked for decades in the understanding of immune disorders.
Professor Gary Frost
Gary Frost is Head of the Section for Nutrition Research at Imperial College London and leads the Imperial Centre for Translational Nutrition and Food. His research spans nutrition science, dietary intake, appetite regulation, obesity management, and the relationship between food structure, metabolism, and ageing. His team has made key contributions to understanding the role of gut peptides in appetite regulation.
Current projects investigate how nutrients influence the secretion of appetite-regulating peptides, alongside the fundamental nutritional physiology of energy balance, glucose metabolism, and lipid metabolism. He also leads research into novel technologies that improve the accuracy of dietary assessment. Gary is the lead of the UKRI Ageing Network and Nutrition Sensing Network (AGENTS) and the UKRI Hub RIPEN.
Professor Daniel Figeys, Director and Chief Executive Officer of Quadram Institute Bioscience, said: “I’m delighted to welcome Professors Magge Dallman and Gary Frost to our Board of Trustees. Each of our trustees have unique skills and experience with much to offer the Quadram Institute Bioscience’s mission to bring real social and health benefits to our society in the years ahead and I look forward to working with them.”
