Applications are invited for enthusiastic and motivated individuals with bioinformatics expertise to join the Quadram Institute Bioscience (QIB), in Norwich, UK.

The role:

The successful applicant will work within an interdisciplinary team of scientists engaged in an exciting and ground-breaking project in collaboration with the food processing industry. The aim is to investigate the gene and genome dynamics of food-borne pathogens and associated microbial communities in multiple environments. This is a rare opportunity to work with unique existing datasets of microbial communities, that will have real-world and immediate societal impact.

QIB provides a vibrant and exciting setting composed of multiple research teams working on microbial genomics, molecular epidemiology, microbial communities and food science. We offer the chance to work with world leading, cutting edge technologies both in IT and computational biology and give you the opportunity to broaden your skills using open source technologies within a bioinformatics context. You will gain experience of working with Big Data, cloud computing, and have the opportunity to publish excellent science in leading peer-reviewed journals.

The ideal candidate:

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in bioinformatics or a related computational subject, and proficiency in Linux and at least one programming language. A PhD is desirable. You will also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as engagement with scientists in related projects throughout the Institute and beyond is an important feature of the role.

Additional information:

Salary on appointment will be within the range £31,250 to £38,100 per annum depending on qualifications and experience.  This is a fulltime post for a period of 3 years.

About the Quadram Institute:

The Quadram Institute is a new interdisciplinary research institute at the forefront of a new era in food and health research. Its mission is to understand how food and the gut microbiota are linked to the promotion of health and the prevention of disease. A partnership between Quadram Institute Bioscience (formerly the Institute of Food Research), the University of East Anglia, the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and BBSRC, it brings together scientists and clinicians in a new state-of-the-art building. The Quadram Institute is based on the Norwich Research Park, one of Europe’s largest centres of life sciences and home of the John Innes Centre and The Earlham Institute.
