Applications are invited for enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join the Bioinformatics team at the Quadram Institute Bioscience (QIB), in Norwich, UK.

The Bioinformatics team:

The Bioinformatics team works to maintain and develop bioinformatics resources in support of world leading food genomics research programmes. We work with huge genomic datasets, performing bioinformatics analysis using cloud computing and compute clusters, and developing novel software methods to push the boundaries of research.

The role:

We currently have an open position for a Bioinformatics Support Engineer. They will work on a variety of bioinformatics data analysis tasks, including metagenomics, RNAseq, de novo assembly, pan-genomes, epidemiology and anti-microbial resistance to name but a few.  They will provide bioinformatics support to all of the research programs at the institute.

We offer the chance to work with world leading, cutting edge technologies both in IT and computational biology and give you the opportunity to broaden your skills using open source technologies within a bioinformatics context. You will gain experience of working with Big Data and cloud computing, supporting up to 150 world class food science researchers and have the opportunity to work with researchers on publishing new methodologies. To tackle these Big Data problems you will have big resources at your disposal such as: over 1,000 CPUs, over 1 PetaByte of storage and machines with TeraBytes of RAM.

The ideal candidate:

Ideal candidates will have a degree in computing, computational biology, bioinformatics or a related computational subject, a strong proficiency in Linux, and an ability to program in at least one programming language to an advanced level. They will also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as the post will involve working with staff across the Institute.

Additional information: Salary on appointment will be £31,250 – £38,100 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. Applications are welcomed from candidates seeking full time, part time or flexible working arrangements.
