Applications Close: 28 April 2019

Salary: Competitive

We are looking for a dynamic, proactive individual to lead a research programme on microbes in the food chain, focusing on Campylobacter.

Campylobacter remains an important foodborne pathogen with considerable impacts on human health and wealth. As part of our commitment to developing solutions to worldwide challenges in human health, food and disease, this key position will enhance our capacity to deliver world-class research and to develop effective prevention and intervention strategies.

The post will be based at the new £75m Quadram Institute, an interdisciplinary research institute at the forefront of a new era in food and health research which brings together medical and molecular microbiologists, epidemiologists, bioinformaticians and clinicians to deliver pioneering interdisciplinary research focused on microbes in the food chain.

QI supports flexible, innovative working that brings together our scientists with partners in QI, the University of East Anglia and the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. We work closely with other partners on the Norwich Research Park, including the John Innes Centre and the Earlham Institute.

We have several Campylobacter work packages already established, investigating stress response, transposon mutagenesis and metabolic modelling. We are now looking to bring in a forward thinking research leader capable of linking these work packages and developing their own research programme, exploiting the considerable resources available and helping to establish the Quadram Institute as a leader in Campylobacter research.

Applicants should have experience in bacterial foodborne pathogens including specialist knowledge of Campylobacter. Successful candidates will have a good publication record, obvious potential for attracting funding and most importantly, have a clear vision for collaborative research to reduce the burden of Campylobacter infection.

Positions come with a significant support package. We offer an exciting, innovative and supportive research environment, competitive salaries (depending on qualifications and experience) and a great place to live – a relocation package is available.
