Applications are invited for an Innovation and Intellectual Property Officer to join the Business Development Team at the Quadram Institute Bioscience.

About the Quadram Institute:

The Quadram Institute is a new interdisciplinary research institute at the forefront of a new era in food and health research. Its mission is to understand how food and the gut microbiota are linked to the promotion of health and the prevention of disease. A partnership between Quadram Institute Bioscience (formerly the Institute of Food Research), the University of East Anglia, the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and BBSRC, it brings together scientists and clinicians in a new state-of-the-art building. The Quadram Institute is based on the Norwich Research Park, one of Europe’s largest centres of life sciences and home of the John Innes Centre and The Earlham Institute.

The role:

This exciting role involves identifying new intellectual property from the research undertaken within QIB. The role will also involve assessing the value proposition and/or business opportunities that can be generated from the asset.

The successful post holder is also expected to identify key target markets and partners as well as assess the maturity of the technology and identify further development required prior to commercialising the technology. Additionally, the post holder is expected to identify the appropriate channels to engage with target partners and create relationships with the identified stakeholders.

The post holder will work closely with Quadram Institute Bioscience staff, members of the Business Development team and external patent attorneys to ensure that the Institute continue to populate its intellectual property portfolio and monetise existing and new intellectual property.

The ideal candidate:

To be considered for this role, candidates should possess in-depth knowledge of intellectual property protection, law and policy. They should be educated to Masters level or above in a relevant field. Candidates should have a track record of building and supporting business relationships and partnerships, and the ability to assimilate and understand scientific and technological issues. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential as the post will involve working with a variety of staff and stakeholders.

Additional information:

Salary is negotiable depending on qualifications and experience.  This is a fulltime post on a permanent contract.
