Applications are invited for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join the Quadram Institute Bioscience (QIB), based in Norwich, UK.

The role

We are seeking a Laboratory Assistant/Technician to support the cutting-edge science of the Quadram Institute. This role is available as a development opportunity: candidates at an early stage in their career will be appointed at SC9 level (£17,893 – £18,981 per year) and upon successfully completing a year of training will increase to SC8 level (£19,505 – £23,790 per year). Experienced candidates may start directly on the higher SC8 level on appointment.

The postholder will provide a high standard of technical support to academic and research staff in the Quadram Institute. The post holder will maintain working areas following protocols and good laboratory practice and support our busy and diverse research laboratories. The post holder will be involved in general housekeeping, glassware handling, media preparation, stock management and providing services to underpin the research programmes and postgraduate student projects. They will also provide an essential core service support that has key health and safety duties. The post holder will be expected to work flexibly, which could occasionally include out of hours/weekend work.

The ideal candidate

Candidates must possess at least 3 A Levels grades A-E, or equivalent. They must also possess GCSEs, or equivalent, in Maths, English and Science. The ideal candidate will be organised, able to work independently and have the ability to work flexibly within a small team. To be considered for the higher SC8 role, candidates must have prior experience of working in a biological laboratory along with autoclave and glassware handling experience.

Additional information

Salary on appointment will be within the range £17,893 to £23,790 per annum depending on qualifications and experience.  This is a full-time post offered on a permanent basis.
