Laboratory Technician

Applications are invited for an enthusiastic and motivated Laboratory Technician to join the Quadram Institute Bioscience (QIB), based in Norwich, UK.

The role:

The successful candidate will provide a high standard of technical support to research staff in the Quadram Institute. They will maintain safe and effective laboratories and ensure good laboratory practice. The post holder will be involved in general housekeeping, glassware handling, media preparation, stock management and providing services to underpin the research programmes and postgraduate student projects. They will also provide an essential core service support that has key health and safety duties, such as fume cupboard monitoring and testing and safe waste, biological waste stream management and chemical disposal.

The ideal candidate:

Candidates must possess at least 3 passes at A Level, or equivalent. They must also possess GCSEs, or equivalent, in Maths, English and Science. Recent experience of working in a multiuser biological research laboratory is essential, as are skills in autoclave control, glassware function and media preparation. The ideal candidate will be organised, able to work independently and have the ability to work flexibly within a small team.

Additional information:

Salary on appointment will be within the range £19,505 to £23,790 per annum depending on qualifications and experience.  This is a full-time post offered on a permanent basis.

About the Quadram Institute:

The Quadram Institute is a new interdisciplinary research institute dedicated to understanding how food and microbes interact to promote health and prevent disease. Its mission is to deliver healthier lives through innovation in gut health, microbiology and food. A partnership between Quadram Institute Bioscience, the University of East Anglia, the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and BBSRC, it brings together scientists and clinicians in a state-of-the-art building on the Norwich Research Park.
