Applications are invited for a Microbiology Sequencing Specialist to join the Quadram Institute Bioscience (QIB).
Background:
Major research of the Quadram Institute is focused on the genomics, metagenomics and ecology of microorganisms in the food chain and in the human and animal GI tract.
The role:
The successful post holder will perform DNA and RNA extractions from individual bacterial cultures as well as the complex microbial communities derived from both clinical and food samples. They will prepare DNA libraries and undertake sequencing using MiSeq Illumina sequencing. The role will also involve training other staff members in sequencing activities.
The ideal candidate:
The ideal candidate will be educated to degree level, or equivalent, in a biological field. They will possess basic bioinformatics skills as well as experience of isolating DNA and RNA, and preparing DNA libraries.
Additional information:
Salary on appointment will be within the range £31,250 to £38,100 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. This post is for a contract of four years.
