Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join the Laboratory of Evelien Adriaenssens in the Gut Microbes and Health Programme at the Quadram Institute Bioscience (QIB), based in Norwich, UK.
The Adriaenssens group is working on viruses in the human gut, using a combination of culture-dependent and culture-independent approaches to elucidate the diversity and role of viruses in the gut microbiome. We are specialised in viral metagenomics (viromics), and bacteriophage biology and genomics.
The role will be partially lab-based and partially computational, offering great flexibility and opportunities for skill enhancement. The post holder will aid in the development of a novel screening protocol to identify novel gut bacteriophages incorporating synthetic biology approaches, will be responsible for phage characterisation and genomics, and will contribute to gut virome analyses.
The ideal candidate:
Candidates should have a PhD in Microbiology or related Biological Science, with experience in bacterial and/or bacteriophage culturing. Any experience or keen interest in computational microbiology is a plus. You will have excellent communication skills and work well independently, as well as in a team. You will also have a strong track record of research outputs commensurate with your level of experience.
Salary on appointment will be within the range £31,250 to £38,100 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. This post is for a contract of 3 years.
