Applications are invited for a Research Assistant to join the Beraza group in the Gut Microbes and Health (GMH) Strategic Programme at the Quadram Institute Bioscience (QIB) in collaboration with the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH).
About the Quadram Institute:
The Quadram Institute is a new interdisciplinary research institute at the forefront of a new era in food and health research. Its mission is to understand how food and the gut microbiota are linked to the promotion of health and the prevention of disease. A partnership between Quadram Institute Bioscience (formerly the Institute of Food Research), the University of East Anglia, the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and BBSRC, it brings together scientists and clinicians in a new state-of-the-art building. The Quadram Institute is based on the Norwich Research Park, one of Europe’s largest centres of life sciences and home of the John Innes Centre and The Earlham Institute.
The role:
The post-holder will undertake lab work including: determination of gene and protein expression, characterisation of the inflammatory response, histological processing of samples and further histopathological analysis.
The ideal candidate:
Applicants should have a solid background both in gut- and liver-related research using samples obtained from in vivo experimental model systems. The candidate will need to have knowledge and expertise in performing genotyping and determination of gene expression, including nucleic acid extraction and analysis.
The candidate will need to master techniques relating to analysis of protein expression including western blot and immunohistochemistry. The candidate must have expertise in histopathological processing and analysis of tissues. Knowledge on isolation and characterisation of immune cells will be desirable.
Additional information:
Salary on appointment will be within the range £18,720 to £22,900 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. This is a fulltime post for a period of 9 months.
