Research Leader (Biofilms – Microbes in the Food Chain)

We are looking for a dynamic, proactive individual to lead a research programme on microbes in the food chain, focusing on Molecular Interactions in Biofilms.

Background:

The Quadram Institute undertakes research in study of key foodborne pathogens, including Campylobacter, Listeria, Salmonella and Escherichia coli. We are now seeking to bring in a forward-thinking research leader capable of contributing to this existing body of work whilst also developing their own research programme, exploiting the considerable resources available and helping to establish the Quadram Institute as a leader in food safety and food security research.

The role:

The post holder will contribute to achieving the Quadram Institute’s research aims, which include understanding biofilms in a number of environments, including within the food chain and in the human gut. We have expertise that brings together excellence in imaging, microbiology, genomics, bioinformatics and mathematical modelling in understanding bacterial behaviour and interactions within these environments.

The ideal candidate:

Applicants should have experience in the imaging of bacterial foodborne pathogens including specialist knowledge of organisms found in the gut and in the food chain. We particularly welcome applications from those with expertise in structured illumination microscopy. Successful candidates will have a good publication record, obvious potential for attracting funding and most importantly, have a clear vision for collaborative research to reduce the burden of foodborne pathogens in the food chain.

About the Quadram Institute:

The Quadram Institute is a new interdisciplinary research institute at the forefront of a new era in food and health research. Its mission is to understand how food and the gut microbiota are linked to the promotion of health and the prevention of disease. A partnership between Quadram Institute Bioscience (formerly the Institute of Food Research), the University of East Anglia, the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and BBSRC, it brings together scientists and clinicians in a new state-of-the-art building. The Quadram Institute is based on the Norwich Research Park, one of Europe’s largest centres of life sciences and home of the John Innes Centre and The Earlham Institute.
