Research Scientist

Applications are invited for a Research Scientist to join the Laboratory of Dr Paul Kroon in the Food Innovation and Health Programme at Quadram Institute Bioscience (QIB), based in Norwich, UK.

The role

The successful candidate will work on a European-funded innovation project that seeks to develop biofortified plant foods using hydroponic growing systems. The post-holder will test specific changes in the hydroponics solutions and their effects on plant micronutrient content, and test the relative bioavailability of the targeted micronutrients in the food plants using established models of human gastrointestinal digestion and of intestinal uptake and absorption.

This role also involves communicating with the other project partners including an SME, preparing various reports, contributing to a range of dissemination activities, and working to tight deadlines.

The ideal candidate

Applicants should possess a PhD in biology, biochemistry or a similar subject. They will have in-depth knowledge and experience of a relevant field of scientific research, such as biochemistry, plant biology, biofortification and analytical chemistry. Experience of writing scientific reports is essential, along with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Additional information

Salary on appointment will be within the range £32,255 to £39,345 per annum depending on qualifications and experience.  This post is a fulltime position for a period of nine months in the first instance, with possibility for extension.

The Quadram Institute is a new interdisciplinary research institute dedicated to understanding how food and microbes interact to promote health and prevent disease. Its mission is to deliver healthier lives through innovation in gut health, microbiology and food.
