Applications are invited for a Research Scientist to join the Laboratory of Dr Paul Kroon in the Food Innovation and Health Programme at Quadram Institute Bioscience (QIB), based in Norwich, UK.

The role:

The Research Scientist will join the Kroon group to work on two research projects. One is a European-funded innovation project that seeks to develop biofortified plant foods using hydroponics systems which has partners in Estonia and Belgium. The other is a BBSRC-GCRF-funded project to investigate the bioavailability of iron and zinc from biofortified potatoes and has partners in Peru, Switzerland and the University of East Anglia.

The post-holder will work collaboratively with other researchers within and without the Kroon group to undertake the experimental research needed for these two projects. In addition, the post-holder will be required to take on a significant role in supporting the management of these projects with Kroon. This will include arranging meetings, requesting and collating progress reports and cost statements from partners, contributing to dissemination activities, and communicating with project partners

The ideal candidate:

The ideal candidate will have a PhD in a relevant scientific subject (microbiology, biology, plant physiology, biochemistry, nutrition) and experience of undertaking original research.

The position would best suit a postdoctoral level biologist or biochemist who has an interest in developing innovative approaches to solve micronutrient deficiencies and has an interest in taking responsibility for aspects of project management.

Additional information:

Salary on appointment will be within the range £32,255 to £39,345 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. This is a full-time post for a contract of 10 months in the first instance, with possibility of extension.
