Applications are invited for an enthusiastic and motivated Research Scientist with Molecular Microbiology expertise to join the Quadram Institute Bioscience (QIB), in Norwich, UK.
The successful applicant will work within an interdisciplinary team of scientists engaged in the investigation of the molecular basis of Listeria monocytogenes survival and metabolism in the food chain. The aim is to study the functional genomics and transcriptional response of Listeria to stress associated with the food chain. Cutting edge functional genomic technology and RNA-seq approaches will be used to identify signatures of risk to food safety to assist in the development of diagnostics and interventions aimed at excluding the pathogen from food.
You will work closely with bioinformaticians and molecular biologists to deliver multidisciplinary science. This role is an exciting opportunity for training and career development.
QIB provides a vibrant and stimulating setting composed of multiple research teams working on microbial genomics, molecular epidemiology, microbial communities and food science. We offer the chance to work with world leading, cutting edge technologies both in Molecular and computational biology and give you the opportunity to broaden your skills using open source technologies within a bioinformatics context. You will gain experience of working with Big Data and have the opportunity to publish excellent science in leading peer-reviewed journals.
The ideal candidate:
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in molecular microbiology, with a PhD in the subject, or related discipline. Experience of Listeria genetics or bioinformatics is highly desirable. You will also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as engagement with scientists in related projects throughout the Institute and beyond is an important feature of the role.
Salary on appointment will be within the range £31,250 to £38,100 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. This post is a fulltime post for a period of 3 years.
