Research Technician
Applications Close: 31 January 2018
Salary: £21,585 to £24,983 per annum
Contract Length: Up to 5 months
The University of East Anglia and Quadram Institute are seeking a Research Technician for a project titled “Identifying novel microorganisms to promote human health”. This is an exciting new collaboration between the Schools of Biological and Environmental Sciences and the Quadram Institute.
This project will examine the function of archaea in the human gut. The human gut harbours a diverse microbiome, and although the vast majority of humans carry archaea in their gastrointestinal tracts, these archaea are underexplored and little is known about the role they play in human health. This study will test the hypothesis that gut archaea play a key role in degradation of metabolites harmful to human health. The project relies on the use of molecular biology techniques, microbiological cultivation and analytical chemistry techniques.
You will have a BSc degree in Biological Sciences or a related discipline or equivalent level of qualification and experience of working in a molecular microbiology laboratory. In addition, you will be able to satisfy all essential criteria detailed in the person specification for this post.
The post is available from 1 March 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter on a fixed-term, full-time basis (1.0fte) for up to 5 months. Part-time work can also be negotiated.
