Senior Research Scientist (Host-Pathogen)

Applications are invited for a Senior Research Scientist to join Quadram Institute Bioscience (QIB), based in Norwich, UK.

The role

The successful candidate will join the laboratory of Professor Cynthia Whitchurch, part of the Microbes in the Food Chain Programme. Their role will be varied and diverse, and will include responsibility for the following:

  • Day-to-day lab management, including supervision and training of staff, students and visitors to the lab
  • Developing Standard Operating Procedures related to laboratory research protocols and data management
  • Assist with preparation of ethics and bio safety approvals
  • Identify, plan, carry out and modify experiments to meet project objectives

The ideal candidate

Candidates should possess a PhD in microbiology or immunology, qualifications in Innovation, Business or Entrepreneurship would be advantageous.

In-depth knowledge of bacterial virulence strategies and immune responses is essential, as is skills in microscopy of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. Candidates should have significant experience of working as a postdoctoral scientist working with human pathogenic bacteria and genetically modified organisms. Experience running a large laboratory with multiple regulatory requirements is essential.

Additional information

Salary on appointment will be within the range £39,150 to £47,850 per annum depending on qualifications and experience.  This post is a fulltime contract for a period of 5 years.
