Sequencing Project Scientist

Applications are invited for a Sequencing Project Scientist to join the Science Operations Programme at Quadram Institute Bioscience (QIB), based in Norwich, UK.

Background:

The core Sequencing group at QIB is headed by Dave Baker and supports all sequencing activities. These include both long and short read applications with scope to develop new and novel applications.

The role:

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work with state-of-the-art DNA Sequencing technologies supporting Quadram Institute core Sequencing researching gut health and microbes in the food chain.

They will assist core DNA sequencing by undertaking library preparation for sequencing of individual bacteria as well as for metagenomics of complex microbial communities.

The ideal candidate:

The ideal candidate will be educated to degree level and have knowledge of high throughput PCR set-up or equivalent. They will also have experience of DNA and RNA handling, the ability to independently carry out laboratory work and excellent time management and organisational skills.

Additional information:

Salary on appointment will be within the range £25,315 to £30,785 per annum depending on qualifications and experience.  This is a full-time post for a contract of 2 years with possibility for extension.

About the Quadram Institute:

The Quadram Institute is a new interdisciplinary research institute dedicated to understanding how food and microbes interact to promote health and prevent disease. Its mission is to deliver healthier lives through innovation in gut health, microbiology and food. A partnership between Quadram Institute Bioscience, the University of East Anglia, the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and BBSRC, it brings together scientists and clinicians in a state-of-the-art building on the Norwich Research Park.
