Applications are invited for a Research Scientist to join and contribute to the further development of a virome research programme at Quadram Institute Bioscience (QIB), based in Norwich, UK.
We are seeking applications from highly committed, motivated and talented Research Scientists for an initial fixed term 16 month post available from November 2021 to work on a project investigating the human intestinal virome and the relevance of specific bacteriophage groups that are associated with key stages of the life course, and in particular in early and later life. The post-holder will work in the Carding and Adriaenssens groups at QI and will be responsible for the analysis and interpretation of metagenome datasets with the possibility of contributing to laboratory-based studies of intestinal viruses and the virome using samples obtained from young and elderly subjects that are part of two longitudinal population based studies undertaken at the QI. While based at the QI, the candidate will spend time working with our collaborators at the University of Leicester to acquire relevant skills and develop protocols for bacteriophage characterisation. For further information candidates are encouraged to contact Dr Adriaenssens (Evelien.Adriaenssens@Quadram.ac.uk).
The ideal candidate:
To be considered for this role, candidates should possess a PhD or equivalent in biological sciences or microbiology. It is essential that candidates have experience or knowledge of the analysis and interpretation of metagenome data, preferably virome data, and the latest informatics-based systems for characterising and studying bacteriophages. Laboratory experience in the development of viral extraction and nucleic acid isolation protocols is a plus. A good record of first author publications in high quality peer reviewed journals is also important.
Salary on appointment will be within the range £32,578 to £39,938 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. This is a full-time post for a contract of 16 months.
